Mycorrhizal symbiosis is a form of interspecies communication happening all around us. Plants and fungi communicate electrochemically through the medium of the mycelial network sharing information about nutrients, environmental conditions and antagonists in the soil. In a sense, this complex woven network behaves like a neural network, transmitting signals through electrical pulses. This vital relationship is ancient and holds critical knowledge that we have not yet been able to understand.
Trans(re)lations is an artwork that makes visible and audible these unseen potentials. Through woven installation, audio, and projection mapping we imagine what it might be like to observe and hear what the mycelium and plants are talking about. This work seeks to break down the communication barrier between humans and the more-than-human world by giving shape to the signals of mycelium.
